These are the lines that are read in a song from the movie raincoat. I just love them and couldn't find them on google. So, here they are-

After a long, it's a book which was mesmerizing not because of the beauty of the narrative but by the strength of the story. The language is as plane as what I would use but the story really resonates at some level (I guess)with everyone.

Well....somebody asked this question and I had to catch my tongue before the answer escaped. Because instead of being from some critically acclaimed, prize winning novel, it was the protagonist of a complete masala mercenary novel. It may be because I had read it at a very impressionable age.

Most of the books that I read in college or before that are fresh in my memory....I remember almost every detail (some of them verbatim) as if they were telecast before my eyes. That's not the case anymore. May be because many things have taken precedence over reading or I don't have ant spans of time when I have absolutely nothing to do or may be it's just my age showing it's effects.

This was a didn't-put-down-until-finished book after long and Chuck Palahniuk is sure an engaging story teller. Soon after finishing this, I checked out the reviews of his other works and he sounds like a cult...a cult that I am readily relating to.

Just completed this famous book by Ken Kesey and loved it. If I would have read this in high school, I might as well have cried in the end when they wheel in McMurhy. The way it unravels the modus operandi of a mental asylum and makes you an accomplice in the plans of the patients against the combine is simply amazing. Apart from this, the striking analogy with so many systems around us which are a little too stuctured, leaves you thinking about things and the way they should be long after you have put the book down.

There are numerous other things that have been touched and the book gives a new perspective on many issues. I must say that it's a must read.

My first "serious" play

One fine day my flatmate asks me if I am interested in watching the play "Karna" and since I am generally considered play appreciator types (mind you that means intellectually elite), I promptly say, "Yes." And then she says that she was also as interested but it faded away a bit on getting to know the ticket price (it was 500 bucks). I also gave a second thought to it, "Though I appreciate plays but is my appreciation worth 500 bucks?" Then she told me that she has said yes because she thought, "Let's take a chance." Clouds of doubt lifted from my mind as well, "Haan ek bar try karne mein kya jata hai, waise bhi I am not shopping anymore this season." So, I also say "Yes".
But the question looms....do I plan to watch the play or watch myself? Do I want to appreciate myself appreciating the play because I still don't know that what do I appreciate except myself ofcourse.

This is a real good story that I came across somewhere....so felt like sharing it here......

Having been told by my husband's doctor about the stage of leukaemia he was in, I felt like a void for a while and then a sense of worthlessness of this existence overwhelmed me.Just to get back to normal, I went out for a walk but the world outside was gloomy,all draped in grey shades of snow.As I walked down the road on this chilly winter evening, I found him leaned against the glass pane of a show case staring intently at something.I drew near to find that this cute....around five year old boy was looking at a pair of shoes with wondering eyes.A chill ran down my spine on noticing that he was barefooted.
I called him,he came somewhat hesitatingly with a flushed look for being caught wanting something. This is what our culture ingrains in us very fast....that it's not right to have desires....it's not okay to want....and above all even if you do,it's not done to let others know about it.I took him along and went inside the store.Asked the salesman for a tub of warm water and a pair of socks.I washed his feet,wiped them,put the socks on his tiny feet and got him the shoes he was gazing at.
As we left the store,I bid him good bye and I turned to go, "Excuse me", he said,with tears in eyes "Are you god's wife?"
